A brand-new baseball glove fights you. A properly broken-in glove responds naturally and feels like an extension of your hand. Our professional break-in service gets you there in days, not months - and we do it without steaming.
Why No Steaming? Steaming forces open leather fibers with heat and moisture. Fibers dry out, padding droops toward the fingers, and the glove loses structural integrity over time. Our break-in method is pneumatic press shaping - the Mitt Master physically forms the pocket the way years of catch would, without cooking the leather. We do not use conditioning oil on new gloves. Oil bonds to the collagen fibers and never fully comes out; it belongs on aged restoration gloves, not new ones (see why). No shortcuts. No steam. No oil bath.
Our Professional Break-In Process
- Intake inspection and photography - we document your glove before we touch it
- Mechanical press pocket shaping - forms the pocket to your specified style using controlled mechanical pressure
- Mallet work on web and heel - detailed hand-shaping to form the web structure and heel break
- Returned in the original packaging - back to you in the same wrapping it arrived in

Why Professional vs. DIY?
Common DIY methods like microwaving, oven-softening, shaving cream, or steaming can produce uneven results and cause real long-term damage. Steaming - still offered by many competitors - is the worst offender: leather dries out, padding shifts, and the pocket loses structure.
Mitt Master mechanical press shaping and hand mallet work do the real break-in on new gloves. Oil is reserved for aged glove restoration - it should not touch a new glove because once absorbed, it never fully comes out. The result is a consistent, position-specific pocket that holds its shape for years, with the leather's natural moisture intact.
