Getting your bat rolled or glove broken in is simple. Here is exactly what happens from order to the day your equipment ships back - ready to perform at its peak.
Step 1 - Order Online
- Bat Rolling - Standard or heated, for composite baseball and softball bats
- Glove Break-In - Professional pneumatic-press shaping + mallet work for infield, outfield, first base, or catcher gear (no steam, no oil bath)
- Compression Testing - Standalone barrel check (free with every bat roll)
Add any notes at checkout - pocket preference, specific instructions, etc.
Step 2 - Ship to Us
- Pack your bat or glove in something soft — padded bat bag, small box, or the original packaging
- Include a note with your name and order number
- Use USPS Priority, UPS, or FedEx with tracking
- Email your tracking number to info@limitbreakdiamond.com
You pay shipping to us. Return shipping is included in your service price.
Step 3 - We Get to Work
For Bats:
- Visual inspection and pre-roll photography
- Pre-roll compression test (G4 SSL certified)
- Progressive perpendicular and parallel rolling passes
- Heated rolling option: controlled heat applied before each pass for deeper fiber opening
- Post-roll compression test and results report
For Gloves:
- Inspection and photography
- Mitt Master pneumatic press - 90 PSI of compressed air driving a pneumatic ram — controlled pressure applied exactly where fingers, thumb, and pocket bend. This is the primary break-in: mechanical, not chemical.
- Position-specific mallet work on the web, heel, thumb, and closure to lock in the pocket shape you specified
- No conditioning oil on new gloves - oil bonds permanently to leather fibers. Pressure and shaping only. Oil is reserved for aged glove restoration (see why over-oiling ruins new gloves).
- No steam. Ever. Steam permanently damages the fibers and shortens the glove's life by years.
Step 4 - Ships Back to You
USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground, with tracking either way. Bat orders include your before-and-after compression test report.
Standard turnaround: 3–5 business days from the day your gear arrives at our shop. Rush (+$20): 1–2 business days.
Turnaround — be realistic about what "rush" means
Sending in your own bat/glove: 3–5 business days from the day it arrives at our shop, then ships back. Rush (+$20) = 1–2 business days.
Buying from our catalog + adding service: 7–10 business days total. We source the item from our supplier (2–3 days), service it (3–5 days), then ship it to you. Rush (+$20) = 5–7 business days total — we upgrade supplier shipping to 2-day air, complete rush service, and ship to you expedited.
FAQ
Does rolling actually work?
Yes. Composite bats require 1,500 to 3,000 quality swings to fully break in. Rolling simulates that break-in with controlled compression. Most bats see a 30-50 lb compression drop and a noticeably more responsive sweet spot from the first at-bat.
Is bat rolling legal?
Rolling for personal use is legal. Rules vary by league - some prohibit rolled bats in sanctioned play and use compression testers at the field. Check your league rulebook. We do not provide services intended to circumvent league rules.
What bats can be rolled?
Composite and composite-barrel hybrid bats only (baseball and softball). Aluminum/alloy and wood bats cannot be rolled.
Will my bat crack?
Rare, and almost always from pre-existing internal damage not visible on the surface. We photograph every bat before starting. See our Service Policy.
Why don't you steam gloves?
Steaming forces open leather fibers with heat and moisture rapidly, which permanently damages the fiber structure, causes padding to droop toward the fingers over time, and shortens the glove's life by years. We use pneumatic pressure instead - the Mitt Master press physically shapes the pocket the same way years of catch would, without cooking the leather. That is the entire break-in method for new gloves. No steam, no oil bath, no shortcuts. Oil is reserved for aged glove restoration only. See our full write-up on why over-oiling new gloves is the biggest mistake beginners make.
Can you break in any glove?
Virtually all baseball and softball gloves - all positions, all brands, leather and premium synthetic. Contact us if you have questions about a specific glove.
