A brand new 2027 Louisville Slugger Supra came into the shop this week. Here's the compression report, the video of the roll itself, and the honest math on what a 130-lb compression drop actually means when you step in the box.
The Numbers
The Process
Heated Roll on a fresh premium composite is a two-direction job. Perpendicular passes first — they loosen the hoop fibers running around the barrel. Then parallel passes to simulate what real swing compression does over hundreds of hits. Corner to corner across the entire barrel, with controlled heat before each pass.
What you're watching is the shortcut. Every one of those roller passes replaces roughly 30–60 real swings of natural break-in. The end result is the same fiber matrix a bat gets after months of batting practice — delivered in a single afternoon.
What 130 Pounds Actually Means at the Plate
Compression numbers are meaningful only insofar as they translate to what the batter feels. Here's the honest math, published in independent bat testing (BatDigest, ProRollers, and industry rolling shops):
- Every 1 mph of exit velocity ≈ ~5 feet of extra distance on a well-struck ball.
- A deep Heated Roll on a premium composite typically adds 3–6 mph exit velocity.
- That works out to 15–30 feet of extra distance on solid contact.
Individual results vary.
The exact drop depends on the bat's starting compression, the specific model, and how far above the legal minimum it starts. Some bats leave the factory at 400+ lbs and have plenty of room to drop; others start closer to the 240 lb legal minimum and have less headroom. We test every bat before and after so you know exactly what changed.
Legal for Sanctioned Play
This is the part LBD takes seriously and other shops sometimes fudge. The USSSA compression floor is 240 lbs. BBCOR uses a different testing standard but a similar principle: too low and it's illegal. Our Heated Roll is tuned to leave meaningful margin above the floor — in this case, +80 lbs above 240. That means the bat isn't just legal, it's comfortably legal, with room for a season of normal use before it drifts anywhere near the limit.
The Kaio-Ken Roll (our exhibition tier) is different — that one is intentionally driven below the floor for home run derbies and non-sanctioned play. If you order it, we make you sign an acknowledgment. It's not for tournament games.
